The Soprano

DebiSmithSopranoCoverHiResDebi Smith's fifth solo double-CD album, "The Soprano," blends acoustic folk with classical flavorings. Both CD's feature Debi's "pristine and soaring soprano" voice (The Washington Post). The songs on CD One range from Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro,” Offenbach's "Barcarolle: Belle nuit ô nuit d'amour" and Bizet's saucy "Habanera" to traditional classics "Wild Mountain Thyme," "Shenandoah" and the “Star Spangled Banner.” It continues with spiritual favorites "Ave Maria" and "Amazing Grace, " and original songs “Bob Dylan’s Poetry,” "In My Dreams" (featuring Debi on Irish bodhran) and "Italy and France," a ballad about Debi's experience of having a child with Autism. CD Two features Christmas music and carols such as "Silent Night," "Greensleeves (What Child is This)," "O Holy Night," and Debi's original Christmas songs. Debi’s originals have been arranged by the National Men’s Chorus of Washington (Thomas Beveridge, director/arranger) for annual performances featuring Debi as soloist. Debi’s song “From The Hills” is included on Christine Lavin’s Christmas compilation “Just One Angel” (2010).

Debi produced and arranged "The Soprano," engineered by Grammy winner Jim Robeson at Bias Studio in Springfield, Virginia. The album features the musical talents of fellow-Grammy winners Al Petteway on guitar and multi-instrumentalist Marcy Marxer. Several of the cuts are re-mixed or re-mastered from Debi's past albums, including one from her first album, produced by the late Merle Watson and featuring the extraordinary playing of virtuosos Doc Watson and Mark O'Connor.

Debi Smith performs and tours as a soloist, and as a member of The Four Bitchin’ Babes.
